Une toute petite phrase...

Post by yannick »

Comment peut-on traduire "sto lat, sto lat niech zyje, zyje nam jeszcze raz niech zyje, zyje nam..." ?

May I remind you that this is an English speaking forum :sun:

Anyway... here's what it says:

For a hundred years, for a hundred years,
May he/she live for us.
For a hundred years, for a hundred years,
May he/she live for us.
One more time, one more time, may he/she live
May he/she live (a hundred years).

This song, the rough functional equivalent of `For he's a jolly good fellow', is sung at occasions to expression appreciation for an individual. This includes both somewhat formal occasions (e.g., a reception for the Archbishop of Poland) and informal ones (birthday, nameday, and other such parties). The words and music are traditional and unattributed.

(found on the Web)
Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.

Not really... In French it would be something like "Qu'il/elle nous vive cent ans", which is not really the same. In any case this English translation doesn't make sense.
