My maghrebian-french friends, as I was a child, often said something like "zahmah" or "zarmah" which could be the "zamel" you mention, for it is quite hard to transcript the dialectal arabic word used by them, that I only heard.
Be that as it may, this "zarmah" is an explanation without signification "well now !", used for suprise, astonishment, anger, etc.
