Scottish Gaelic Translation "Be proud of your heritage"

Post by Emmam »

Would really appreciate some help translating the phrase "Be proud of your heritage" into Scottish Gaelic.
It was the last thing my son's Great Grandfather said to him, and he would like to honour his Scottish Ancestry with a tattoo of this phrase. Many Thanks :D

Hi Emmam

be: bestaan; wees
heritage: erfdeel; erfgoed; erfnis
of: van
proud: fier; groots; trots
scottish → Scottish: Skots
your: jou; julle; u

Tentative suggestion

bestaan fier van jou Skots erfdeel

But bear in mind that I know nothing about Scottish Gaelic :D

Cheers
solbjerg

Hi solbjerg,
thanks very much for your suggestion :D
I have found the following:
BE -
PROUD- state of being proud, ostentation= UAILL, proud /passionate = ARDAN ACH
OF -belonging to = DE
(PROUD OF - MOIT ANN AN)
YOUR - belonging to you (plural)= UR
HERITAGE- tradition= DUALCHAS, birthright = CDIR-BHREITH or DUAL

So the possible translations would be :
moit ann an ur cdir-bhreith (proud of your birthright)
moit ann an ur dualchas (proud of your tradition)

uaill de ur cdir-bhreith (proud of your birthright)
uaill de ur dualchas (proud of your tradition)

ardan ach de ur cdir-bhreith (proud/passionate of your birthright)
ardan ach de ur dualchas (proud/passionate of your tradition)

???

thanks for your answer

Solbjerg, are you aware that your translation is in Dutch? It has nothing to do with Scottish Gaelic...
Be proud of your heritage
= Bitheadh pròis ort airson na h-oighreachd agad.

Hi Gearoid_2
Can you please tell me if the line at the end of your post is your translation of the quote?
{ie.= Bitheadh pròis ort airson na h-oighreachd agad.}
thank you
