HELP!!! <French> asap!!!

Post by Demona »

i have no idea how to say that in French....can somebody , please, help?

the thing i want to say is:

"i found there the embassies and representation even of such countrie as Iraq and bla and bla."

the tense is of no matter. the main thing is the word order and the aaaarticles....i thought articles in english are hard to understand...i was wrong...french ones are even worse! i do like then language, though...

so...can you help me?

It's not easy to translate "even of such countries as" word for word. I suggest:

J'y ai trouvé les ambassades et les représentations de nombreux pays, même l'Iraq.

?

I'd say :
J'y ai même trouvé les ambassades et représentations de pays comme l'Irak et blablabla.

I propose:
"J'y ai même trouvé les ambassades et représentations de nombreux pays tels que l'Iraq et blablabla"

=> "J'y ai même trouvé" from "I found there" +"even"
=> "tels que l'Iraq" from "as Iraq"

"J'y ai même trouvé...."
=> the word "même" is there to insist on the fact that even countries as Iraq were found there.

one more thing....all of you used some tense form or just form that is unknown to me....could you please explain that?

"J`y ai trouvé ...." what is it? it doesn`t really look like passé composé...or is it?

It is the equivalent of "I found sth there".

"y" represents the place. Like in "j'y vais", for "I'm going there".

"y" also replaces things if there is "à" before. For instance:
- je participe à un forum > j'y participe
- je pense à mon pays > j'y pense

But if you talk about persons and not things, then you can't use "y" :
- je pense à ma mère > je pense à elle
- je téléphone à Paul > je lui téléphone

It is also used in some expressions, like "ça y est" (that's it).

Voilà !

Hehe, "y" is one of those tricky things that make french language so cool :D ... and difficult !
We have some others like "en" as in erm... "J'EN AI MARRE DE LA FAC !"

Aaaah... feeling better now :).
