"We" in as many languages as possible?

Post by kfg998 »

Hello everyone -- I did some searching here and couldn't find this answer. I'm looking for translations of the word "we" in as many languages as possible. "We" as reference to people in general, including the speaker and others. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

EDIT : I answered in French, forgetting the request was in English. Sorry! I hereby change it to English.

In reo tahiti (the language of Tahiti and surrouding Polynesian islands), there are many possible translations depending whether "we" includes the person who is speaking or not. If it does, it is called "inclusive", like in "We will all come to see you". It can also be exclusive like in "We, the Americans, voted for Obama" when said by someone who voted for McCain.

"We" meaning two persons, inclusive : maua [mawa]
"We" meaning two persons, exclusive : taua [tawa]
"We" (more than two) inclusive : matou [mato-u or matow depending on the region]
"We" (more than two) exclusive : tatou [tato-ou or tatow depending on the region]

In romany : ame
