Hvad for pokkers mener SLARK på englesk...?!

Det synes a være et norsk ord - og her komer sætningen...

"Jeg er av den mening at vi trenger «slark» i skjønnlitterært forleggeri – det tar tid å se hva som kan bli godt – men vi trenger det ikke i sakprosaforleggeriet."

Hi HlewagastiR,

Since you understand Danish, I suggest the Norwegian word 'slark' be translated into 'slør' in Danish (e.g. as in 'ratslør'). In this specific meaning however, it would be more like 'lag', 'tolerance' or 'acceptance of deviation'.

Det skulle have været skrevet "shark", dvs. et engelsk ord...

I do not agree with your hypothesis that the word is a misspelling of "shark". That simply does not make contextual sense.

The translation reads something like this: "I am of the opinion that we need some 'slack' within litterature publishing - it takes time to see what can become good - but we do not need it in non-fiction publishing".

The entire text seems to deal with the business situation of publishers in a small country (in terms of population) like Norway and therefore I see the comment as a suggestion to publishers to be more flexible and give more time for upcoming litterature writers, whereas his opinion about non-fiction is that there is already published too much without sufficient quality.

Well, this is how I read it (and btw, I am Norwegian). I'll be glad to try and help out if you or anyone else, need input on any of the Scandinavian languages, which I speak fluently.
