the final aspiration you are talking about is the Visarga or a common nominative mark in some declinations. it is because kheda is only the root, or the pratipadika. this aspiration is then used in a phrase to indicate the word is a nominative or subject, and it is marked in the transliteration as the letter "h" with an underdot (bindu).
so you have to know whether or not the word is being used as subject, before applying the final aspiration (but it's not that every word take visarga in the nominative).
