hungarian: "festek"

Post by balak »

Does festek, not festék, mean anything. I know festék means paint
I have this phrase in my text book:
Ma már nem festek
I would translate:
Today even/already it is not...(smth)

by the way, már here means "even" or "already"? Thanks in advance!

Yes, festek means "I paint": the noun you know, festék "(a) paint", is in fact derived from the root fest of the verb "to paint".
Ma már nem festek = I do (or: will) not paint any longer today (future meaning with present time of the verb when context is clear).
Már is "already", and with a negative it becomes: már nem "no more, no longer".
The opposite logical meaning would be: még "still, again, some more" (and: még ... is "even ...", perhaps this is why you mentioned "even"), or with a negative: még nem "not yet".
And good luck with your study of this fascinating language!
