Yes, I would like to keep my garbage disposal

Post by Evelyn »

My apartment house manager wants to remove all of our kitchen garbage disposals, and claims that most residents do not care or even want the disposals gone. A few residents who do want to keep the disposals are circulating a petition asking others to sign if they agree with the statement "Yes, I would like to keep my garbage disposal."

But some of our residents are not English speakers. Many of our residents speak Korean, quite a few other residents speak Russian, and there are people here from many parts of the world.

I'd appreciate any help this forum could give with translating the sentence "Yes, I would like to keep my garbage disposal" into other languages, including:

Korean
Russian
Chinese
Arabic
Spanish
Persian
French

Any other languages would be helpful, too. Thank you all very much.

(edited to correct spelling & syntax - oops!)

In French I suppose "garbage disposal" is just poubelle "waste bin", or does it also mean sorting waste (tri sélectif)?

I guess it is "broyeur d'évier" in French.

Thanks so much, Olivier and Kokoyaya.

And thanks to Kokoyaya for the link and the clarification - I should have been more specific. Quoting the linked Wikipedia article:
"A garbage disposal unit, waste disposal unit, or garburator is a device, usually electrically powered, installed under a kitchen sink between the sink's drain and the trap which shreds food waste into pieces small enough—generally less than 2 mm (0.079 in)—to pass through plumbing."
I realize that this may all seem a little silly - garbage disposals are an amenity that most people worldwide go happily enough without. But they are an amenity that we were all promised when we moved in here, and our landlord wants to yank them all out without giving us any sort of a good reason why.
(That, and - Well, most of us get along okay despite all of our cultural differences, but tensions do crop up from time to time. If, in the absence of garbage disposals, garbage and the various food wastes from all our diverse cuisines give rise to unpleasant odors in our common hallways; that's not going to help the situation any.)

Thanks again to all.

So:
French: Oui, je voudrais garder mon broyeur d'évier.
Spanish: Sí, quisiera conservar mi triturador de basura.
Now only Korean, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Persian left. :)

Do you happen to have any Portuguese speaking residents?

For Brazilian Portuguese we would say:
"Sim, eu gostaria de manter meu triturador de lixo."
Merci de corriger notre français si nécessaire.
