Norwegian or Celtic for "PROTECTOR"

Hi,

Yesterday I became godmother for a little boy, called "Rune". I don't like the dutch word for godmother, it sounds too old and it has a catholic meaning. I mostly want to guard and protect this boy, so I am looking for a celtic or scandinavian translation.

Also : I myself am pregnant, my child will hopefully be born in june 2005, so it would be nice if I'd have nice words for its protectors. Thanks

Protector in Irish: cosantóir (pronounced koss-un-tie)
In Breton: diwallerez, gouarnourez (=female protector)(pronounced dee-wah-luh-russ and gwar-noo-russ)
In Scottish Gaelic: bean-tèarmainn (pronounced ben-chair-mwinn)
