brown or chocolate

Post by Willow »

I am trying to name a brown kitten and thought a wonderful name would be his color in another language but I didn't want it to sound like brown or chocolate. I am looking for something unusual but easy to pronouce. I would so appreciate any help you could provide to me. Thank you!

In French, there is "marron" (I think thant you can use "marronne" for a female). It was originaly used for chestnuts, but also for their color.
In Spanish, there is also "marrón", and also "castaña". The first one is for the color, whereas the second is for the fruit.

Well, I guess you can use any word to name an animal. But "marronne" doesn't exist in French. One always uses "marron", even for feminine or plural forms...

In Japanese (I think this language is the easiest to pronounce for anybody):
chairo (brown)
kokkasshoku (dark brown)
kuri (chesnut brown)
Il n'y a rien à comprendre, la consigne, c'est la consigne.

in romanian, brown is "marou", pronounced "marrow" :loljump: provided your kitty likes meat, your problem is solved

otherwise, in czech and slovak brown = hnedy, pronounced [hniédi] and gray = šedy, pronounced [schedi] (but not like the EN word "shady", caution). you can also use "tmavy" [tmavi] which means "dark" or "stin" [steen] which means "shadow" in czech and "tien" [tieni] for "shadow" in slovak

In Quebec, it's always brun.

In Italian

Marrone (brown)

Bruno (dark brown)

In Maltese

Kannella

In quechua language "brown" = ch'unpi (tch'oonpee)

That sounds good for a kitten !

In German:

brown → braun (not much use since it sounds pretty much the same as the English)
chocolate → Schokolade (shok-ol-ah-duh.. maybe a bit more useful)
