Sanskrit in Joan of Arcadia

Post by mshaffer »

Following are links to screen captures from the opening credits of the television program "Joan of Arcadia." Some believe the text that appears is Sanskrit. Is it Sanskrit, and can it be translated into English?

in the third picture, i can only read " giruromiArya"

but for the significance of part of words..............:(

As for the second picture, the last letter seems to be ति , but the only word I know meaning " gift" with this letter at almost the end of the word, is
आंहतिः A(n)hati

but the begining of the word doesn't seem to be like above

Hello Vikr,

Thank you for your help. Please expand upon what you have stated? Can you define "giruromiArya" in English? I have found "Gir" and "Arya" but don't know what the middle part means.

You also stated you thought the end of a word in the second picture was A(n)hati , but the first part does not match any word for gift.

The reason I joined this list is because I know absolutely nothing about reading Sanskrit. I am the writer/editor for the cultural reference pages for a fan site of this show at http://www.mysteriousmessage.net/index.htm. These images are from the opening credits of Joan of Arcadia. I have come here to solicit your help to determine if this ancient text really says something.

It is quite possible the writers of this program used real Sanskrit characters to create this text, but the characters do not form coherent words or sentences. The purpose of this script may be to generically represent many ancient texts that are said to be the word of God. This would be in line with Joan of Arcadia’s being spiritual in nature, but not aligned with a specific religion.

So, I would value your opinion as to whether this script really does say something or if it is just looks like Sanskrit.

Hello Oliver,

The first and second images are the same, with just part of the text circled in the second image. The third image is similar to the first, but was captured a few seconds later. The total length of time that this text scrolls across the screen is only maybe about 5 seconds.
