Random phrases and words

Post by SandraSolariaDees »

I'd like to see these in as many languages as possible, but particularly in Finnish, Norwegian, and French, please.

All is good in the cheese sandwich.
A penny saved is a penny earned.
A picture is worth a thousand words
The Sacrament is you
One must lie in the bed one has made.
I'm only happy when it rains.
lilies
roses
entomologist

and, I was also wondering what the finnish word, ikkunaprincessa, meant. It's the title of a song that I like.

Thank you everyone for all of your previous, present, and future help!

Finnish

All is good in the cheese sandwich - Kaikki juustovoileivässä on hyvää
A penny saved is a penny earned - Säästetty penni on ansaittu penni
A picture is worth a thousand words - Kuva on tuhannen sanan arvoinen
The Sacrament is you - Sakramentti on sinä
One must lie in the bed one has made - Täytyy maata vuoteessa joka on itse sijattu
I'm only happy when it rains - Olen iloinen vain silloin kuin sataa
lilies - liljat (the lilies), liljoja (lilies)
roses - ruusut (the roses), ruusuja (roses)
entomologist - hyönteistieteilijä

The word "ikkunaprinsessa" means "window princess". It's a song by HIM, right?

Thank you soo much! I love the Finnish language. I'll be learning it in college, and I hope to spend some time studying abroad in Helsinki.

Well, Ikkunaprincessa is actually a song by the vocalist, Ville Valo, and I think the band is the Agents. It's not the actual band HIM, though.

The Sacrament is You is a line from the HIM song 'The Sacrament', my favourite. All of my favourite bands are from Finland, with the exceptions of Led Zeppelin and My Chemical Romance. I love HIM, the 69 EYES and Apocolyptica.

Thanks again, didine!

I'd still like to have these translated into Norwegian and French, as well as any other languages anyone would like to provide.

Thank You,

in French

All is good in the cheese sandwich. : Tout est bon dans un sandwich au fromage
A penny saved is a penny earned : idiomatic expressions would be : un sou est un sou or Il n'y a pas de petites économies
A picture is worth a thousand words : Une image vaut mille mots
The Sacrament is you : Tu es le sacrement (not sure ?)
One must lie in the bed one has made. : On doit se coucher dans le lit qu'on a fait
I'm only happy when it rains. : Je suis heureuse seulement quand il pleut (you should settle at my place in Brittany then ;) )
lilies : lis
roses : roses
entomologist : entomologiste

If nobody answers for Norwegian, you may use the translation service, it's free :hello:

An old French proverb goes: Comme on fait son lit, on se couche.

Now in Hungarian:
All is good in the cheese sandwich. = A sajtszendvicsnek minden része ehető.
A penny saved is a penny earned. = (?) Minden fillér számít (=every penny counts)
A picture is worth a thousand words = Egy kép akár ezer szót is megér.
The Sacrament is you = A Szentség Te vagy. (could also mean: the holiness is you, but the context would made it clear)
One must lie in the bed one has made. = Ki mint veti ágyát, úgy alussza álmát. (=as one makes his bed, he sleeps)
I'm only happy when it rains. = Csak akkor vagyok boldog, ha esik az eső.
lilies = liliomok (several kinds, else singular: ) liliom
roses = rózsák (in the same way: ) rózsa
entomologist = rovarszakértő

I think you can better say "Je ne suis heureuse que lorsqu'il pleut"
