A Cantonese romance!

Post by lucyfoo »

My new beau speaks Cantonese and ended his email with:

"ni zhen piao liang"

what does it mean? Is there anything I could end my email with to wow him with! I hope it isn't rude or I will be very embarrassed!

Thank you everyone

It means "You're beautiful". You can go ahead to repond by "You're handsome" -"ni zhen ying jun" or "ni ye hen ying jun" (you'r ehandsome too)

By the way, the words are really in mandarin, not cantonese.

I think one must add why the cantonese guy wrote something which does not seem to be cantonese !
Chinese people write all in standard Chinese and only speak different languages. The thing is, standard written Chinese is very similar to Mandarin spoken Chinese.

你真漂亮 written in Chinese can be read aloud both in mandarin and in Cantonese.
However Cantonese prefer to say 你好靜﹗neih hou leng

I concede it is really confusing for neophytes !
