Spring gate [definiton]

Post by damiro »

Hi everibody,

Does anybody of you know what a "srping gate" is? And what could be its French equivalent...

Sample text:

Mr. H. B. Patterson Finlay, on behalf of the railway company, expressed his deep regret at the accident. The company had always taken every precaution to prevent people crossing the lines except by the bridges, both by placing notices in every station and by the use of patent spring gates at level crossings.

From James Joyce, A Painful Case

Many thanks for your help. :hello:

Je pense à des portes que l'on pousse et qui se referment toutes seules grâce à un ressort = Portes rabattantes à ressort.
Pour les passages à niveau on utilise souvent le mot portillon à la place de porte.
