Comparative Analysis - Grammar books

Post by Mirko »

Hi Everyone,

For one of my lectures I have to do an analytical comparison of something in french and english, I chose to compare the conventions of French & English grammar books... yes, I chose badly!

Well, I can't really find any english grammar books for non-native speakers, thus making it difficult me to make comparisons. So have any of you ideas of main differences between French & English grammar books? On Tuesday I have to do a presentation about what I've found so far and after write a 2000 word essay :-o

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

well; this subject is very interesting, indeed. but do you need grammar books on French and English in order to write an essay on comparative analysis? English and French are indeed very alike, since they are Indo-European languages...
good luck,

Yes, but I have to analyse the different conventions of the books, for example, where the contents pages are, different styles of presentations, ways of explaining things, order, style of language etc... any ideas?

well, we do know that organizing an essay to be presented in a concise way is a complicated thing. we are really not qualified to answer this.

does it have to be based on the language of the grammar you chose, or is it just about the language and organization of the book itself?

best regards,

About the language and organisation of the book itself... I know it's stupid!

but we think it shouldn't be as hard as you think, although we don't have enough experience to say that... but what is the idea? is it the organization of the two books, based on the fact that one book is of English grammar and one is of French grammar, or is it based on the fact that one of the books is in French language and the other one is in English language?

is the fact that one of the grammars is of French language important?
