You should just read at least something about Trados, because it seems that you just don't know at all what it is. CAT tools and machine translation are fully different things, so you can not even compare them.
As for those two website, I don't know anything about translator's cafe, but I think the same answer is applicable to it: of course people do get jobs, or otherwise how and why do these sites exist? Do you think all the people registered and active in there are fake or what? Don't you see that there are just about thousands of members in there? Do you think they spend their time there just for the fun of it, without ever getting any job?

I can understand your concerns about translator job sites. However, you should bear in mind the following:
- it is free to have a profile on there.
- there are some extremely valuable resources
- like in the real world, you have to find clients. It is not enough to put up a poorly thought out profile and wait for the offers to come flooding in.
Having said that, I have experience of ProZ and I also know professional translators who are full of praises for it. I think every professional translator should have a presence on such sites.
With regard to Trados, svernouxs is absolutely right. Yuo should get informed about Trados and related programmes such as MultiTerm then you would see that it is very useful. A good place to start is their website! (and then have a look at the Proz forum on Trados). Perhaps it is not the best programme of its kind but it is the most widespread.
