Hello everyone. I need to translate a couple of words from French (possibly Canadian French) into English.

This is the excerpt:

Là, dans le paradis, il y a un chèfre le plus haut de tous. Son nom est Omissa-Kamigokouè. Je ne peux pas bien traduire ce mot, mais ça veut casiment dire ‘le maître de la terre.’

I can't find out what chèfre and casiment mean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Casiment = quasiment.

About chèfre,I don't know.

chèfre is not a word that exists.

Maybe Chef? leader, boss, chief

could it be an OCR mistake for chêne = oak ?

Ok, I see. Thanks a lot to all.
Chèfre is not an OCR mistake. This is from a book published in 1860 in London. And the french text is marked as Upper Canadian "Français sauvage".
I also think that it's a form of "chef". But the problem is that the name used (Ojibwe name) Omissa-Kamigokouè looks like a female name, but other words are of masculine gender. So it's important to me to know what this word definitely is.
