I am new here and am currently writing a novel rooted in Harry Potter style, with a magic school, spells and the works. I was wondering would it be wrong to use Sanskrit for spells, would I recieve objection to this upon publication? Also how can I make fast and legible translations, right now I enjoy the simplicity and easy-to-read way of Google babel-fish, is there such a translator...for free...that can translate english to sanskrit quickly, understandably and correctly?
Thanks for any help in advance! I've been using latin for my spells in my book as a placeholder and now it is time to transfer it to the 'official' language of magic and spellwork - which I chose to be Sanskrit.

an important thing to notice is that Sanskrit has no relation with magic or spells, and it is no "official" magic or spellwork language. it's used in Hinduism for Mantras, prayers, religious texts and so (non-Hindu usually think that mantras are "magical"), but it has no relation with magic whatsoever.
CastonMan, note that there are no automatic translations that make correct translations: you have to know the language if you want to translate. and, we assure you, there are definitely no on-line Sanskrit translators like babelfish, because Sanskrit is very hard to translate, since it has a syntax which is as complicated as the morphology. so, it would be nearly impossible to make correct computer translations from English to Sanskrit, with Sanskrit being such a contextual language, so distant from English (although from the same family).
do you know Latin? do you know Sanskrit? we know both, but we know that there is no easy way to translate any of them. we, for example, have an offline Sanskrit dictionary we use everytime we want to make a translation. and you also need a grammatical knowledge of Latin and Sanskrit if you want to make correct translations for both languages. and also keep this in mind: Sanskrit grammar is highly complicated and inflectional.
we would gladly try to translate some request of yours into Sanskrit... but we are not translators and we are not Sanskrit "specialists", only students.
we advice you to reflect about our answer as much as you can, ok?

Okay, well I have about 35 chapters in this novel, I'll have to go piece by piece, the first spell I need is a fire spell. Here is a quote:
“Flamma maxime,” he shouted, and at least a dozen balls of flame erupted from the wooden rod, setting the nearest cottages ablaze.
Obviously latin for maximum flame/fire what would this be in Sanskrit, and pronounciations would be great too!
