French Nursery Rhymes

Post by Kaitlin2541 »

Hello!!

I was wondering if you could please help me with some french nursery rhymes. I would love to know some traditional nursery rhymes/songs for babies/little kids...please include the english meaning, the french version and the french pronunciations. I would love to be able to sing them to my daughter since I live in Canada and want her to be much more bilingual then I am.

Thank you so much for all of your time and hard work!!

I think you should buy CDs with French nursery rhymes. Surely you can find some in Canada. Because if we give you only the lyrics you won't be able to sing them... But if you have the CD, you can find lyrics online, or we can help you and/or translate and give pronounciation help...

I agree with Maïwenn ; nevertheless, there are many websites concerning such songs, where you can both find the text and listen to the music : for example here, here and here. If some of them interest you, give their name here and maybe somebody will translate them for you.

If you want more, just have a look on google (keyword : "berceuse").

Thank you for he quick replies and suggestions!! I went to the sites that you suggested I go and look at. I know the tunes to the following nursery rhymes:

Doucement, lentement

Doucement, lentement, doucement, lentement
Vent de la mer du couchant,
Respire et souffle, lentement, lentement
Vent de la mer du couchant
Va sur les flots qui roulent
Viens de la vieille lune, et souffle
Souffle-le vers moi encore
Pendant que mon petit, pendant
Que mon joli dort.

Could you please help me out with the pronunciations of these songs? Thank you!! I'm looking forward to hearing from you!!

Do you have any background in French? It would help if you already knew how to pronounce it, sort of... But if you don't, we'll find a way to explain :)

Maybe there's an easier way : here you will find a vocal robot. Select the language "French", and the voice of "Jolie" (it is the most exact), enter the text and you will hear it. The prononciation is not absolutely perfect, but I think it is better than all what we could suggest in a written explanation.

Tom & Maïwenn both of you rock!! That's amazing!! I'll be going to that site that you recommended. That's amazing that they have a site like tha! I'm so excited. And to answer your question Maïwenn, I'm Canadian so I have some experience with French...but not with nursery rhymes. Thans again for your time and help!! I'll let you know how that goes!!
