Finnish: Help with a translation

Post by Cãlin »

Hello, everybody! :hello:
Hello, Didine! :hello:
Hello, Finnish speakers! :hello:

I was wondering if you could help me with a couple of lines in Finnish. I am copying them from the Finnish Wikipedia, the article on the Finnish metal band SENTENCED.

- Sentencedin kappaleiden "The Suicider" ja "Excuse Me While I Kill Myself" tekijätiedoissa esiintyvät salanimet "The Serial Self-Killer" ja M. Steelgrave. Kyseessä ovat yhtyeen kitaristit Sami Lopakka ja Miika Tenkula.
- Miika Tenkula on esiintynyt levyjen kansilehdissä muun muassa Müka Tenkulana, ja monen kappaleen tiedoissa on tämän johdosta säveltäjänä Muka Tenkula.
- Kappaleessa "Neverlasting" (albumilta The Cold White Light) ajassa 2:39–3:00 yhtyeen laulaja Ville Laihiala läpsyttelee rytmin tahdissa vedellä kostutettuja pakaroitaan. Sentenced on käyttänyt soittimina myös muun muassa saksia, lusikoita, paineilmaa ja jääkaappia

I have a vague idea of what the first two paragraphs say...

Thank you in advance! :jap:

Terve Cãlin!

I'm pretty ill and don't seem to be able to speak English today, so I'm afraid all I can do is give you a French translations of those 3 sentences.
- Sentencedin kappaleiden "The Suicider" ja "Excuse Me While I Kill Myself" tekijätiedoissa esiintyvät salanimet "The Serial Self-Killer" ja M. Steelgrave. Kyseessä ovat yhtyeen kitaristit Sami Lopakka ja Miika Tenkula.
Les pseudonymes "The Serial Self-Killer" et M. Steelgrave apparaissent dans les informations sur les chansons de Sentenced "The Suicider" et "Excuse Me While I Kill Myself". Il s'agit en réalité des guitaristes du groupe, Sami Lopakka et Miika Tenkula.
- Miika Tenkula on esiintynyt levyjen kansilehdissä muun muassa Müka Tenkulana, ja monen kappaleen tiedoissa on tämän johdosta säveltäjänä Muka Tenkula.
Le nom de Miika Tenkula apparaît plusieurs fois sous la forme de Müka Tenkula sur les pochettes des albums du groupe. Par conséquent, la forme Muka Tenkula est reprise dans les informations sur plusieurs chansons dont il est le compositeur.
- Kappaleessa "Neverlasting" (albumilta The Cold White Light) ajassa 2:39–3:00 yhtyeen laulaja Ville Laihiala läpsyttelee rytmin tahdissa vedellä kostutettuja pakaroitaan. Sentenced on käyttänyt soittimina myös muun muassa saksia, lusikoita, paineilmaa ja jääkaappia
Dans la chanson "Neverlasting" (tirée de l'album "The Cold White Light"), entre 2:39 et 3:00, le chanteur du groupe, Ville Laihiala, se frappe sur les fesses mouillées en rythme avec la musique. Sentenced a utilisé d'autres instruments étranges par le passé: des ciseaux, des cuillères, de l'air comprimé, un réfrigérateur, etc.

Moi, Didine!

Paljon kiitoksia käännöksestä!

The translation to French is alright. I can get my wife to translate the unknown words from French to Romanian for me.

I will come back with a couple of questions later on. I found the lyrics of a Sentence song in Finnish. I am currently trying to translate them to English myself. There are a few lines which i don't understand though...

By the way, is "Paljon kiitoksia käännöksestä!" correct? I mean, the last word...

Thanks again!
Get well soon! :hello:

Hello again! :hello:

I´m in need of some help again.

I have decided to post my questions here, since they are again related to Sentenced.

I have two tiny questions for the any of the Finnish speakers.

1. Aika multaa muistot - does is mean: time entombes the memories? Is it a saying? I have seen it translated as: Everything is nothing. Is it an appropriate translation?

2. Ville Laihiala (the vocalist) welcomes the fans to the goodbye gig by saying: "Hyvää iltaa, herkkuperseet, rapamahat, ystävät ja vihamiehet. Tervetuloa kuoppajaisiin!". Lemme see: herkkuperseet - candybutts, rapamahat - clay bellies, vihamiehet - hate people. It don´t make sense to me. The rest of the sentence is pretty clear to me. Could you help me?

Thanks a lot in advance! :drink:

I don't think "everything is nothing" has anything to do with "aika multaa muistot" :). It's an altered version of the famous saying "aika kultaa muistot" which means that time turns memories into gold. But yes, you're right, it does mean time turns memories into dirt, or entombs them.

Yeah, basically what he says is "Good evening, candy asses, clay bellies, friends and foes / enemies. Welcome to the funeral! (kuoppajaiset is a weird way of saying it)".
There's nothing more to it :). "Vihamies" is a synonym for the word "vihollinen", when somebody is your enemy, he's your "vihamies".

Hello! I would like some more help with a tiny Finnish translation, if you are so kind to help me:

"On pirun vaikea selvitä hengissä hautaan saakka."

It´s difficult to.................down to the grave. I suppose.

Thank you very much in advance! :hello:
