Hello all and Happy New Year,
I was wondering if anybody knows of a site or book that could help me a little with some translations, French - English, that I have to do. I am trying to find something that would explain certain expressions/idioms. 'A deux pas' 'taper dans l'oeil' for example.
I have found the equivalent for these phrases, or so I think!!, 'a stones throw away' and 'couldn't fail to miss', but am asking really for future use.
Thanks in advance

A key part of learning a language is learning the expressions and idioms. Most "mid-range" dictionaries will have this information, and will probaby cost around 25-30 Euros, I reckon. They are well worth this price if you are serious about learning the language.
The most trusted publishers for English dictionaries are Oxford and Collins. It's hard to find English-English dictionaries in French bookshops, maybe you'll have to order online.

I agree it's not easy to find English-English dictionnaries, but it's possible. I bought mine in a small bookshop nearby... And I don't even live in a big city. So with some effort, you'll find it.
