Swedish to English translation: "Emil in the Soup Turee

Post by EmiliLonneberga »

I'm looking for a friendly swedish translator :-) that absolutely loved Astrid Lindgren books about Emil i Lönneberga (Emil of Lönneberga) and Pippi Långstrump (Pippi Longstocking).

I have a swedish 10 minute video extract taken from the first DVD in Emil's DVD series.
The video extract is the funny episode "Emil in the Soup Tureen".
You may download Emil's video (.AVI file, 70MB) to see the type of text/dialogue to be translated.
At the end of this post, I included an extract of the swedish subtitles file to be translated.

I need help with the swedish to english translation of the subtitles (aprox. 115 sentences), as I don't know swedish.
Then, I'll translate from english to portuguese (I guess finding here a friendly swedish to portuguese translator would be too much luck :-).

This is a non-profit challenge to contribute to the portuguese children-oriented site "Emílio Dentro Da Terrina" ("Emil in the Soup Tureen") focused in this particular story from Astrid Lindgren. It's a non-profit tribute site to encourage young readers to know Astrid's beautiful, funny and engaging stories/books.

It's my hope that someone in this forum will be willing to help in this task (2 or 3 hours work?).

Volunteers can reply here in this forum or contact me directly to:
Emilio.de.Lonneberga at gmail dot com

Many thanks to all readers interested in this children-oriented web effort.

00:28:26,501 --> 00:28:31,814
Den dagen åt de köttsoppa
med grönsaker till.

231
00:28:31,981 --> 00:28:39,456
-Måste du sörpla så, Emil?
-Annars vet man inte att det är soppa.

232
00:28:42,581 --> 00:28:46,699
Alla fick äta så mycket de orkade.

233
00:28:46,861 --> 00:28:52,015
Det var bara en liten slurk kvar,
som Emil ville ha.

234
00:28:52,181 --> 00:28:59,656
Enda sättet var att köra ner huvudet
i skålen och sörpla i sig slurken.

235
00:29:02,061 --> 00:29:06,532
-Nej, men Emil...!
-Jag sitter fast!

236
00:29:06,701 --> 00:29:14,016
-Käre barn, kom ska jag hjälpa dig.
-Vad skulle du köra ner huvudet för?

237
00:29:14,181 --> 00:29:20,620
-Skålen sitter där den sitter.
-Vad ska vi ha ärtsoppa i på torsdag?

(...)

342
00:39:43,661 --> 00:39:48,610
Det var ingen konst.
Jag gjorde bara så här.

343
00:39:49,901 --> 00:39:54,213
Aj! Jag sitter fast!

344
00:39:54,381 --> 00:39:57,896
Förgrymmade unge!

345
00:39:58,061 --> 00:40:00,052
Nähä!

Hi, why don't you borrow the book at the library and find the appropriate phrases?
Well anyway - here is my translation
230
00:28:26,501 --> 00:28:31,814
Den dagen åt de köttsoppa
med grönsaker till.
That day they ate meatsoup with vegetables.
231
00:28:31,981 --> 00:28:39,456
-Måste du sörpla så, Emil?
-Annars vet man inte att det är soppa.
Must you slobber like that, Emil?
-Otherwise one doesn't know it is soup.

232
00:28:42,581 --> 00:28:46,699
Alla fick äta så mycket de orkade.
Everyone ate their fill.
233
00:28:46,861 --> 00:28:52,015
Det var bara en liten slurk kvar,
som Emil ville ha.
There was just a little gulp left, that Emil wanted.

234
00:28:52,181 --> 00:28:59,656
Enda sättet var att köra ner huvudet
i skålen och sörpla i sig slurken.
The only way was to put his head in the soup bowl and slurp up the sip.

235
00:29:02,061 --> 00:29:06,532
-Nej, men Emil...!
-Jag sitter fast!
-No, but Emil…!
-I am stuck!

236
00:29:06,701 --> 00:29:14,016
-Käre barn, kom ska jag hjälpa dig.
-Vad skulle du köra ner huvudet för?
Dear child, let me help you.
Why did you put your head down there?

237
00:29:14,181 --> 00:29:20,620
-Skålen sitter där den sitter.
-Vad ska vi ha ärtsoppa i på torsdag?
The bowl is placed where it's placed
What do we use for pea soup Thursday?
(...)

342
00:39:43,661 --> 00:39:48,610
Det var ingen konst.
Jag gjorde bara så här.
That was no problem.
I just did it like this.
343
00:39:49,901 --> 00:39:54,213
Aj! Jag sitter fast!
Ai! I am stuck!
344
00:39:54,381 --> 00:39:57,896
Förgrymmade unge!
Tomfoolery kid!
345
00:39:58,061 --> 00:40:00,052
Nähä!
Not so!

Cheers

@solbjerg: Thank you for your help.

We're very happy to announce that at last you can enjoy the video episode "Emil In The Soup Tureen" with ENGLISH SUBTITLES at:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 5704690898

You can also see the same video "Emílio Dentro Da Terrina" with PORTUGUESE SUBTITLES at:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 3951738598

"Emil In The Soup Tureen" (13min) is a video segment of the "Emil i Lönneberga" DVD, based on the story from the well-known swedish author Astrid Lindgren.

The short episode "Emil In The Soup Tureen" is available as a portuguese illustrated text at:
EmilioDentroDaTerrina.blogspot.com

Subtitling was based on english translations kindly donated by Anne-Charlotte Harvey (acharvey@mail.sdsu.edu) and H.S./Lo Nathamundi (loswirlingwaters@gmail.com). Anne-Charlotte and Lo are members of STiNA - Swedish Translators in North America.

This first-time bilingual translation of the video was developed by a new portuguese non-profit online initiative aptly called "30 Anos Dentro da Terrina" (30 Years In the Soup Tureen) to commemorate the 30th Anniversary (in 2009) of the publishing in Portugal of three books of Emil of Lönneberga (Emil of Maple Hills) by the Editorial Verbo.

This fan project aims to promote the discovery of Emil's stories by young readers and is based at the portuguese-speaking blog:
