[Hungarian] Hi, I have a very large problem

Post by jadorah »

I have a letter written by a GGgreat grandfather in HUNGARIAN. I would like to be able to know what it says. It is very old and I cant read it very well. I have not a clue as to how to make the marks over the letters. I guess I can write the letters as they are written but with out the marks.

Here is a sample of what I have.

hidte hogy a Mornak a sogora les es most nem ugy.
If you can let me know if this is in any way right I can send more.
Thanks so much, Frome Texas USA.

For a letter in a language you do not know, you probably had better scan it and post the link here (use a hosting site like imageshack).

That seems to be: hitte hogy a Mórnak a sógora lesz és most nem úgy = "it looks like (s)he believed it/he would be Mór(=Maurice)'s brother-in-law and now it is not so".
So it is rather understandable but dt for tt and s for sz does not look so certain (a bit unexpected, or maybe a mistake in the original especially as for dt).
