Ancient Biblical Question
I've been trying to find out what language was spoken during the time of Kind David and King Solomon's reign (specifically King Solomon). Nobody seems to know a defenite answer on that. I figure it would be some Hebrew dialect or phonecian, or chaldean?...so if anyone can help me that would be great...also, if someone does now what language was spoken or written, maybe they can help me translate something from me, the word "Peacemaker". Someone has to know...please write back.

In fact, the important element is that when Salomon became King, he decided to give a big place to the scribes in his court and asked them to write down the final text of the Genesis. This text has the particularity to call G.od by the well known tetragram YHWH, that is why we call this kind of text "yahvist". This part of the Bible is written in Hebrew, we can then figure out that the language (at least at the court) was Hebrew.

See for instance there: http://www.krysstal.com/langfams_afroasia.html :NYCTwin wrote:Why was the language at the time of Jesus aramaic, and in the time of King Solomon it was Old Hebrew?
Aramaic, once the administrative language of the Perisan Empire, later the language of Palestine during Roman times. It now survives in small pockets in Syria, Iraq, Turkey and Iran where it is called Assyrian.
