Or "do your best" is better?

I would say "do your best".

make your best ce serait plutot pour créer. c'est a dire crée de ton mieux. fais de ton mieux mais dans le sens faire = créer.
ex: I am going to make my best sandcastle. je vais créer mon plus beau chateau de sable. Ici make your best serait plus utilisé que do your best.

do your best c'est plus répandu. c'est tout simplement fait de ton mieux. sans pour autant signifier créer...

"do your best" alone or with "do your best on X (on job, on test, ...)"
"make your best + noun" (make your best offer, make your best cake, choice, ...)
