correction d'une intro en anglais

Post by noemy »

Bonjour !

What is a tornado? Why can we see thunderclouds in the sky? What is an anticyclone? There are all the various and numerous questions to which men had difficulties to find answers. For example, in the Ancient Greece and Rome people allocated Gods to each atmospheric effect: wind, rain, lightning… It was the way they found to give some explanations to what they can’t understand.
The fact is that meteorology, the science of the weather, is a worrying subject, even since the beginning of the humankind. In fact the first work in the world about weather forecasting dates back to 3,000 before Jesus Christ. It was written by and contained the very first forecastings.

And even today, atmospheric phenomena remain a daily worrying subject: what clothes can I wear to go out? How must we react in case of tornado? Have I to take my umbrella? At the difference that nowadays many efficient tools (satellites, computer,…) allow us to give a rational and scientific explanation to weather patterns and even we can’t control these phenomena, we can nevertheless try to anticipate and limit damage.

So we decide to choose this scientific subject for two reasons. First as it completely differs from all other scientific subjects such as diseases, AIDS, genes, cloning... and then to better understand natural forces on our planet.

The texts we choose to work on are a bit complex but deal with all the causes of atmospheric phenomena and factors which can produce them. The first one is an overview of all the themes we will see in our file as it was important to get to know some specialized words. The second is the longest, it was difficult to take excerpts from it because there were a lot of links and we had to select only the most interesting paragraphs. That’s why in order to make it more coherent, we chose other titles and decides to include other texts such as these about clouds and tornadoes inside it to bring more details.
The third and fourth texts are shorter but they deal with phenomena that we particularly wanted to study, there is no real link between all these texts but there are complementary towards the subject we chose.

Our goal was to highlight the diversity of atmospheric effects but also the interaction between them. This is very important inasmuch as all are bound from the droplet to the hurricane for instance. And the second aspect to present is the fact that studying the sky isn’t enough. In fact, if we don’t deal with the role and the composition of the atmosphere ant the hydrologic cycle and the description of the Earth in general, our work won’t be complete and precise enough.
This is the reason why we define meteorological words which seem easy but they are essential to understand the whole mechanism of the weather. Thanks to the summary you will have an overview of what are meteorology effects.

1 It was written by and contained the very first forecasts
Auteur manquant

2 This is very important inasmuch as all are bound from the droplet to the hurricane for instance.
Je comprends pas le sens

Bye

Andreas

What is a tornado? Why do we see thunderclouds in the sky? What is an anticyclone? These are some of the several questions which men had difficulty answering. For example, in Ancient Greece and Rome people allocated Gods to each atmospheric effect: wind, rain, lightning… It was their way of explaining what they couldn’t understand.
The fact is that meteorology, the science of weather, has been an everyday preoccupation since the beginning of mankind. In fact the first work in the world about weather forecasting dates back to 3000 BC. It was written by XXXX and contained the very first forecasts.

And even today, atmospheric phenomena are still relevant to our everyday lives: what clothes should I wear to go out? What do we have to do in case of a tornado? Do I have to take my umbrella? The difference is that nowadays many effective tools (satellites, computers,…) allow us to give a rational and scientific explanation to weather patterns and even if we can’t control these phenomena, we can nevertheless try to anticipate them and limit any damage.
