Wow, thanks a lot for all the phrases! Do you speak Sámi!?? I always thought it was a language very closely related to Finnish, but that phrase looks more Germanic (to my mind... )

Concerning that Swedish phrase.... Isn't spöke just used in the meaning of ghost in Swedish in contrast to the Danish and Norwegian way of use? In Swedish I'd say Det var ett skämt (eller är jag ute och cyklar??? )

Saying that I speak North Sámi is probably a bit of an exaggeration, let's say that I just get by in this language! I wouldn't say it's very closely related to Finnish, the two languages just belong to the same subfamily (Finnic languages). The Sami languages are a subgroup of this family, the other subgroup (Balto-Finnic languages) is made up of Livonian, Estonian, Votian, Finnish, Ingrian, Karelian, Ludian and Vepsian.

I asked my boyfriend about the Swedish phrase - he's Finnish, and all the Finns learn Swedish at school. He confirmed that "Det var ett spöke" is correct. However, finlandssvenska differs in some points from rikssvenska, so this could be the case here...
