English to Hebrew translation

Post by k3i1l1o »

I would really appreciate it if anyone could translate birth into Hebrew. I can't find it in online dictionaries.

Personally, I know two words for "birth"

לֵדָה [ledá]
הוּלֶדֶת [hulédet]

Both of them are feminine.

Be careful, if you want to say "birth" meaning "delivery of a baby" it is לֵדָה .
הֻלֶּדֶת (and not הוּלֶדֶת) is used for "birth" meaning "creation".

What's wrong with the spelling of "הוּלֶדֶת" ? I found both forms in the dictionary. However, the VAV is part of the root: נוֹלָד, לְחִוָּלֵד...

It is not he problem of the Waw !!!

The world is coming from the root verb at the pu`al form (intensive passive). In fact it is coming from the constructed infinitive form, which is, for exemple with the regular verb קטל, the form קֻטַּל. As you see, it requires a daggesh within the second letter, and a short qubuts. The present of the ה on the beginning is coming from the fact that you have a semi-vowel at first.
