Can anyone tell me what manele means, it seems to be some kind of music style, but I can't seem to figure out what kind of music style this is supposed to be and what the word means. Thanks in advance.
"Manele" is the plural of "manea" (usually used in the plural). Yes, it is a sort of cheap music, played mostly by gypsies. I guess it is quite popular with the working class and peasantry.
Hi, thanks so much for the reply! I like some Romanian music like Akcent, 3 Sud Est, O-Zone and Be3 etc. but I hope that this doesn't fall under "manele" sometimes I do find it under this category regards, Servien. (Does this mean I am a cheap-gypsy-music-lover haha? )

None of those bands play manele. Manele are played and sung mostly by individual singers. I know that Adrian Copilul Minune ("Adrian the Prodigy") hahaha, is quite famous abroad. The bands that you have mentioned play some sort of disco and dance music. Besides, all of these bands are made up of Romanian and Moldavian artists.

Yes, Maï, it is absolutely true in Romania as well.
