Can somebody translate English into Miq'maw?

Post by Guest »

Quite a few years back, at a Miq'maw sweatlodge, an Elder gave me my Miq'maw name based on my two chief totems. But I cannot remember it. In English, it loosely meant "Owl flies with Raven" -- as these two birds share the top of my totem pole; the Owl facing ahead, while the Raven faced back. I'd had it written down somewhere; but too many moves have caused me to lose the file! And I do not live near any local band, now! :-(

I may not have enough Native blood to claim status -- but I am proud of what Native heritage I do have! Could somebody please help me reclaim this part of my lineage? From English, into Miq'maw: "Owl flies with Raven" ... if further specifics are needed, my chief totem is the grey owl. My contact e-mail is: lddecker@eastlink.ca

And I appreciate any help anyone here can give me. (Dwayne)

Dwayne;
How would an internet translation of a clan name that is so important to you that you can't remember..be thought of as "reclaiming your heritage?

You don't have enough sense to remember, or to respect where and who it came from, or even learn that the "word/translatiion" that was given to you (that you lost) was not meant to identify you individually anyways (unless you paid for it, and if so, someone saw you coming...sucker).
..your chief totem is the grey owl..? How much did you pay for this information?
I have a genuine hand made by a real status Indian, leather wallet for sale for you personally. Buy soon, and I'll throw in a tiny carved owl that I'll paint grey for you. ...sheesh...

Dear 'nishnabe

And what about respecting the guest who posted this message ? He is interested in your culture, it's too bad that you prefer looking down at him instead of sharing your knowledge...
