I have recently recieved a notice that my college roomate next year is named -- Thu-ung Ann Lin --
I would like to know if this is a Vietnamese name, and if so, is it pronounced phonetically? My Vietnamese friend was unable to give me a clear answer and suggested that it may be thai. Thank you.

It doesn't sound Thai to me... more likely Vietnamese or Chinese.
