[Sanskrit] Translation

Post by jotember »

I am wondering if someone could clarify a word in sanskrit for me. The word is nartitavya. I read where it means "The being obliged to dance, necessity of dancing." If someone could possibly clear up this definition a little bit, and then also translate it into sanskrit writing, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

nartitavya is the future passive participle (or participle of obligation) of the verbal root nrt(nreet) meaning "to dance".
look how it happens: nrt, the plain verbal root, has to take a guna form, and, in its guna form, the r (pronounced: ree) converts into an ar -> nart. in the future passive participle, one has to add to the verb the ending -tavya or -itavya, thus, nartitavya.
this verb, in the participle of obligation, means an "obligation to dance" or "obliged to dance"; thus, "necessity of dancing"!
"The being obliged to dance, necessity of dancing." - this definition of the term is from the Monier-Williams Sanskrit dictionary.
