English to German translation for a paper on dad

Post by Lance Vogt »

I'm writing a paper on my father and would like to call it "Spirit Warrior" or "Fighting Spirit" (his heritage is Comanche/German, son of a German immigrant and Native American). I want the title to be in German but it has to make sense to Germans. Does anyone have a good translation?

I forgot to mention, I was trying to express the Comanche connotations. Spirit being the essence or inner being of a person, and a true warrior is one who fights for honor or for necessity, not desire or enjoyment, so any recommendations of a German phrase that would express these ideas would be very helpful. Thanks.

I'd suggest "Geist des Kampfes".

But wait for other ideas so that you can make your choice !

Thank you very much for your reply Tom! What I was thinking was close but I was afraid it wouldn't make sense. It's been 20 years since German class and it's amazing how much one can forget. One more question if you don't mind, what would be the difference in perception between "Geist des Kampfes" and "Geist des kriegers"? Thanks again.

"Geist des Kriegers" means "spirit of the warrior".
"Geist des Krieges" -> "spirit of war"
"Geist des Kampfes" -> "spirit of fight" or "fighting spirit".

Thanks again Tom!!! I've read most of the old forum discussions now and knew I could count on you. This is my new favorite website! A lot of the discussions are beyond me, but still fascinating to read through. Thanks much and best wishes.
