mathematics in Sanskrit

Post by pc2 »

salutations,

for some time, we have been willing to know how to express mathematical formulas in Sanskrit.
of course, in ancient India, when the mathematical treatises were written, they didn't know the mathematical notation we know today in the Western world. for example, when Bhaskara wanted to express his formula, he didn't write "x = [-b +- sqrt(b - 4ac)]/2a". we would like to know how this formula was expressed in Sanskrit.
and, back to the common notation, we were also curious for knowing how to say "plus", "minus", etc., in Sanskrit, like in "one plus one", "two minus one", etc.

salutations,
