Dear Freelangers,

How do you say 'battlefield' and battleground' in other languages apart from french ('champ de bataille' et 'terrain de bataille', no?)?

Mongol (dictionnary) : bayldaany talbar for battlefield.
I don't see any difference in french, sorry.

That's interesting, for in hindi talwaar = sword.

You don't have to be sorry, after all the difference is only typological.

czech = bitevni pole [bittevniy polay - in english phonetics / bitévni polé - in french]
slovak = bojové pole [boyové polay]

In Croatian it's: bojno polje or you can just say ratište

In Canadian French

Battlefield = Champ d'batâille

The second A of Bataîlle is grave.

In German

Battlefield = Schlachtfeld

The pronounciation is Chlarte-fèld. It is neutral so we say Das
Schlachtfeld. This word takes always a capital letter.

In Italian

Battlefield = Campo di battaglia

The pronounciation is Campo di bat-tali-a. It is masculine so we say
Il campo di battaglia.

In Spanish:

battlefield = campo de batalla

It's the only one used. Battleground would be something like "terreno de batalla", but we don't use this one.
