Searching Old English Word

Post by Frustrated »

I am searching for an Old English word I heard on the History Channel TV station once. It was a word for a dungeon used in the Middle Ages in England (I think) in which prisoners were taken underground and left for dead. The word translated into "a place to be forgotten". Can anyone help me with this? If so, you can email me at transportequip@mchsi.com. Thanks!!!!!!!!

oubliette is used in english but it's not old english: ETYMOLOGY: 19th Century: from French, from oublier to forget
meaning: "noun, a dungeon the only entrance to which is through the top"

a place to be forgotten...
Pile ou face?
