I don't think Gilen speaks Russian, but I do. I'll try and help if you have questions. :)

if you're going to lost your faith to speak Russian one day, leave the grammar for a while and prepare some blinis (олади).
And now we are two at least (may I, didine?) to try to help you.
I am sorry for my English.

learning russian

Post by ANTHOS »

Hello

I started learning russian a year ago. The pronunciation is not easy to master - the hardest aspect, perhaps because it was so new to me, was the soft vs hard sounds. Nearly all consonants have a soft and a hard variant. The soft variant corresponds to a specific movement of the tongue, so that a different sound is produced.

I have some sites on my home PC which I will post when I have the time - some have sound recordings.

I also recommend you buy/borrow the CD by Ruslan for Russian learners to use alongside other material - it is excellent for 'training' the ears to detect the different Russian sounds.

Zhelayu udachi - Good luck ! - the grammar takes time so don't worry - the advice by Katjek is good advice With perhaps some vodka to wash them down (neat of course, the Russian way). :drink:

Don't lose your faith. In Russian there're not to many tenses. On the contrary, there're only present, past and future! Take care with the declinations! That could be tough! :D

In that case, you should have written " cabale" and not Kabbale :)

Now that depends on a lot of things, including what your mother tongue is, how motivated you are to learn Russian, how much you're exposed to the language, etc. ;)

Hi mido !

About how long it takes to learn Russian, I'd say it might well take you a thousand years if you never get in touch with native speakers ! :loljump:

Seriously, it's just as for other languages : you have to spend some time in the country if you really want to speak normally... You can learn grammar on your own, but declination won't comme easy until you've practised it in daily life... And of course it's the same for pronounciation. I tell this from personnal experience : I learnt Russian 3 years and wasn't able to make a correct sentence, though my boyfriend is a native Russian speaker. And now it's all OK since I've spent 1 year in Ukraine.

But as said bambino, don't lose faith, even if you come accross difficulties ! Actually, what is your native language and for what purpose do you want to learn Russian ?
I'm also at your disposal if you need help :hello:
