godmother

Post by Superinge »

I am looking for the translation of "godmother" or in Dutch "doopmeter". I am too young and not catholic to be called doopmeter. It may also be a translation of "protector" or in Dutch "beschermer", because that's what I'll do

godmother

Post by Superinge »

Thanks.

For now, the only one a little bit pronouncable in Dutch is "kummitäti", perhaps I'll shorten it to "kummi". Let's hope my "godchild" or how you may call it, will like it too.

If anyone has other names, please don"t hesitate. You may also say how you call your godmother and godfather (shortened, small words), to make it sound nicer or sweeter.

"Kummi" works too in Finnish. :) Be careful with the pronunciation, "kumi" means "rubber". ;)

Tiens! Autrefois, en polonais, on employait aussi le mot: kuma, mais c'était pour marquer la relation entre la marraine et les parents (mère et père) de l'enfant. Au masculin c'était kum. Donc: matka chrzestna pour l'enfant était kuma pour ses parents.
Maintenant on ne l'emploie que dans un sens figuré.
Cordialement
