Honestly now, when I first saw this topic, I myself thought of the similarity with the Romanian word... But I did not make any comment, as I thought of a coincidence and I expected that someone would show up and identify some other language, and then my comment would have been useless...
Anyway, if nobody identifies this word, it could be some nickname (or pseudo) based upon the Romanian word.
And one final mention: although this word normally means "crows", it is extremely often used (in slang) to denote gypsies. (because of their dark complex and hair)
