:-o Where did you find them ?

:-? Yes, those words do exist... But in maedieval latin! (and even at that time they are less used than hortus. Moreover, you would have to write either :

sg. = gardinum (neutral)
pl. = gardina

or :

sg. = gardinus (masculine)
pl. = gardini

:nono: but no mix of both.

Anyway : the real classical latin word is hortus. Like in the word horticulture (fr. and english) and o horto in portuguese ; isn't it, Pc2 ;) .

yes, that's right, but the word for hortus in portuguese is feminine: horta.

we have found that medieval latin word using the William Whitaker WORDS dictionary. it's a very good Latin dictionary, the lastest version (1.97E) has 37000 words in Classical Latin, Medieval Latin and "modern" Latin

you can find it here: http://www.erols.com/whitaker/words.htm
