(it would be more logical to say "drove", no ? In that case, let replace "reppelit" by "reppullit".

I am an artist working on a painting inspired in part by the Bayeux Tapestry that deals with the conflict between the Christian West and the Muslim East. The translations are needed to describe various scenes, much like in the Tapestry. If it is inappropriate to make such request on this site please let me now and please accept my apology in advance.

No, no : you are allowed to ask for latin translation for your own use. The other latinist and I self will try to help you.

But, if you were a student, we would have required from you to present a first experiment ; because it would have been uncorrect to do student schoolword instead of themselves, is not it ? And such case, we help the other one like a teacher did.

For you are clearly not a student in latin studies, there is no problem.

You often find "Vindobona" for "Vienna". So I would suggest (for the rest, I strictly take over Sisyphe's perfect translation) : "Hic Austria Johanne Sobieski Polonorum rege juvante Turcos a Vindobonae portis reppelit".

(Maybe Tom knows a maedieval word for translating "Mehmet/Muhammed").

-> Scythae Arachosiam invadunt magnamque vim resistendi inveniunt

("Scythiae" means the people who occupied the current russian territory. There is also no word for translating "Afghanistan", but "Arachosia" was the name of one of Alexander the Great's province (who invade Afghanistan, before Russians !), which is now, more or less, Afghanistan. He named its capital "Alexandria" (!), which is now "Kandahar" (the word "Kandahar" is a distortion of "Alexandria" !).
