Je ne cherche pas à faire poétique car c'est le fond qui compte et pas la forme.

Vita pendatur haud per spiritus, sed per ea tempora quae spiritum rumpunt.

Does "take your breath away" have the same meaning than the french expression "couper le souffle", i.e. to amaze ? In such a case, whereas this translation would have been understood (I hope), I doubt whether it exist a such idiomatic expression with "breath" in latin...
